The club was founded in the year 1880 and is presently based in the east Manchester. This club is well renowned for participating in wide varieties of league matches and winning many trophies.

The assistant manager Malcolm Allison wished to reproduce the AC Milan colours to motivate the players as well as inspire the team with self-esteem.

Therefore, he insisted that the club wore black and red striped away jerseys. To everyone's surprise his intuition became true and since the team got a confidence from their apparels, they won the FA Cup Final in1969 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1970.
